The Black Lion is found in the village of Pontrhydfendigaid, which means 'The bridge of the blessed ford'. It is a quiet rural village locally known as Bont. It recently saw the opening of the Pavillion- Bont Pafiliwn. This hosts venues like the Eisteddfod,horse & craft fairs and gigs and brings footfall to the otherwise quiet village. The inn is located one mile from historic Strata Florida Abbey, which makes for a pleasant walk.

Rail station and national coach terminus is at Aberystwyth (14 miles).
