Bird & Nature Watching

An easy walk from the village will bring you to the old railway line that crosses the northeast part of Cors Caron, otherwise known as Tregaron Bog, the National Nature Reserve. From the ground and from the new bird hide, many different birds can be spotted, including the buzzard, herons and Red Kite. Many species of dragonfly thrive here and lizards, snakes and voles can all be seen.
Those especially interested in botany will seasonally find many wonderful wetland species at Cors Caron and other local nature reserves. A few miles north, on the southern slopes of the Plynlimon mountain range are the lush green valleys of the Ystwyth and the Rheidol which host wildlife-rich remnants of ancient oak woods.
At Nant yr Arian forest centre red kite feeding takes place daily. There is also a red kite museum at Tregaron.
Ynyslas dune slacks show an array of wild flower species in early summer, including orchids. There are 3 RSPB reserves within driving distance; Ynys-hir,the biggest is north of Aberystwyth and has woodland and estuary hides.Gwenffrwd Dinas has a
rugged river walk and Carngafallt is in the Elan Valley.
