The Black Lion can rightly claim to have provided a recommended resting place for cyclists and bikers for over a century. The Cyclists' Touring Club plaque is original to the building and was set into the cement rendered wall of the inn around the year 1900, although it may have been placed on the wall some years before. When removed for cleaning and painting in the recent renovation programme two workmen were required to lift it down. The cast iron plaque weighed just over 27lb.
Among a collection of old trade cards of the Black Lion is one c.1900 that states that it was a headquarters of the CTC, but headquarters of which branch or club is not known.
From the Black Lion numerous old track ways can provide a stern test of endurance or a pleasant easy ride. For muddy shoes and bicycles a few steps lead down to the stream for the first rinse and there is a bucket and brush for the final clean up. Family friendly, traffic free trails include the Ystwyth trail. For mountain biking there are numerous trails at Nant yr Arian forest centre.
A secure cycle store and drying room is now provided for cyclists with wet clothing.
