The land surrounding the Black Lion Hotel is set in a naturally outstanding area of beauty, it was to be designated a National Park in 1972 but was never ratified because of powerful vested interests. Due to Strata Florida's remoteness, walkers can experience some of the most unspoilt and beautiful scenery in Wales. This area truly is a hidden gem.
The Black Lion Hotel is conveniently located on both the Cambrian Way Long Distance Footpath and the Birmingham to Aberystwyth Long Distance Path. From Pontrhydfendigaid, you may enjoy strenuous mountain walks or rides, or more leisurely strolls where you will find little known, but fascinating, historic and natural features. The beautiful Elan Valley is a short drive away, along the very scenic Cwmystwyth mountain road towards Rhayader-this is a must see for any visitor.
